--- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Toy hammer can be used by child as part of an exercise routine to strengthen upper extremities. Using a saw, cut a pattern into a 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 by 2 3/8 inch piece of softwood that will serve as the hammer head. Drill a hole into the hammer head and glue a 1/2 inch by 8 inch dowel into it. The child can use this toy to strike clay. The pattern on the hammer head will leave indentations on the clay, hopefully extending the child's interest in the activity. SKILLS REQUIRED: Woodworking.
