Foundation delivers food for students, veterans

Cape Cod Times - 3/21/2020

Mar. 21--SANDWICH -- Donald Cox swung his box truck into the high school parking lot Friday afternoon, where he dropped off 27,000 pounds of food to help feed students.

Next week, he'll be doing a different delivery route, dropping off packages at VFW posts across the Cape that will contain two weeks' worth of dried goods for veterans who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are under quarantine.

Cox, the president of the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, will be traveling in a custom, 50-foot truck that was built to carry a combination of frozen food, refrigerated foods and dry goods to help military families and veterans. Donations from organizations such as the New England Patriots and Ocean State Job Lot helped to pay for the truck. He consulted with the Greater Boston Food Bank on recipes using the food contained in each box.

Cox said the organization has had to cancel or postpone four fundraisers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can either go to the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation's Facebook page, visit massmilitarysupportfoundation.org and hit the "Donate" button, or write to the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation at P.O. Box 715 West Barnstable, MA 02668.
